ABOUT US

As an accredited member of the Camping Association of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (CANSPEI) and The United Church of Canada, Camp Kidston has been building meaningful outdoor experiences for children and youth for more than 55 years!

Founded in 1966, Kidston is located on over 460 acres of woods and water in the northeast corner of Halifax Regional Municipality - and it is the ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life!

At Camp Kidston, we are committed to creating a just, nurturing environment in which all are fully free to be themselves.  We welcome and honour the beautiful diversity of all people reflected in race, colour, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression.

A week of summer camp at Camp Kidston allows children and youth to develop new friendships, independence, and leadership skills through out-tripping, environmental education, sports and games, swimming, low elements, arts and crafts, canoeing and kayaking, faith exploration, and more.

Camp Kidston also provides year-round community events, facility rentals, and facilitated school programs.

Meet The Team

Each year, a skilled and diverse team of staff work together to welcome children and youth to Kidston's programs.  Our staff are genuine, enthusiastic, creative, caring - and most importantly - passionate about camp!  All staff go through a thorough hiring and screening process (including Criminal Record Checks and Child Abuse Registry Checks) to ensure our campers have a safe and positive camping experience.

Our summer team includes cabin counsellors, trained lifeguards and Paddle Canada instructors, program staff, First Aid, admin, and kitchen staff.

Director of Camping

Alison Cook

"I’ve been coming to Kidston since 2015, and what keeps me coming back is the magic of camp—which is just a quick way to summarize the meaningful connections, opportunities for growth, lasting memories, and all the fun that camp is! My favourite camp memory is the first time I slept under the stars on my first overnight out trip. Outside of camp I have a Bachelor of Science in which I studied Computer Science and Social Justice & Community Studies at SMU, and this fall I’ll begin a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education at MSVU! I also enjoy woodworking and puppetry. I’ve been happy connecting with many supporters of campers that will be joining us this summer, and I can’t wait to see everyone on site soon!"

At camp, I love all the games we play and I especially love swimming in the lake! I come to camp because the work we do means more to me than anything and I love seeing the growth from people after just 1 week! To all our campers coming this year, I cannot wait to spend another great summer with you all! Let’s make this summer the best one yet!"

I keep coming back to camp because it has allowed me to try so many new things and make so many meaningful connections and memories. My favourite memories at camp are my first time going to the bog and when I got to lead my first vespers! Outside of camp, I am working on my bachelors degree in Political Science and History and enjoy hiking, going to the beach, and trying new restaurants. I can’t wait to swim in the lake with all of you this summer, see you soon!"

Cain

Hey! I'm Cain! A lot of you campers may know me from previous years, either in the kitchen or something else. But I'm a counselor now! I've been coming to camp for many years, coming to see friends and make some new ones. I'd say my favorite part of camp is the games, mainly wildthings and turkeys. But outside of camp I mainly hangout with friends and family, and play a lot of video games. but that's enough about me. I can't wait to see you all in the summer, as my first year as a counselor!
