Executive Director Job Posting

June 2024

About Camp Kidston:
Welcoming, inclusive, adventurous and affordable, Camp Kidston provides a safe and happy summer camping experience to kids aged 5 to 16 where they can explore their unique talents and place in the universe through opportunities to unplug and connect with friends, outdoor adventures, and faith exploration. As an accredited member of the Camping Association of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (CANSPEI) and The United Church of Canada, Camp Kidston has been building meaningful outdoor experiences for children and youth for more than 55 years. Located on over 460 acres of woods and water in the northeast corner of Halifax Regional Municipality, it is the ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

About the Role:
Arthur Kidston Memorial Camp (“Camp Kidston”) seeks a visionary leader to serve as Executive Director. Reporting to the Board Chair, you will provide strategic direction, manage operations, and oversee all aspects of Camp ministry. Highly organized and versatile, the Executive Director (“ED”) needs to love spreadsheets as much as stream walks, and be as comfortable pitching a funding proposal as pitching a tent.

The successful candidate will demonstrate extraordinary leadership, inspiration and trustworthiness to the Kidston community, comprised of staff, campers, parents, volunteers and the Board of Directors as well as a broader community.

Primary responsibilities include Leadership and Vision; Program Management; Operations Management; Engagement, Marketing and Fundraising. A year-round job, the ED will foster the growth of Camp Kidston in its reputation for delivering exceptional programing both during its legendary summer children and youth camps, as well as the shoulder seasons for families and groups, to maximize its use and mission.

As a not-for-profit organization, a key goal is to ensure the accessibility of the camp to all who want to be a part of the Camp Kidston community. Continual fundraising, to maintain current grants and grow new opportunities, is essential to the Camp’s outreach and sustainability. The ED, with support from the Board, will excel at preparing and securing grant applications, as well as designing engaging fundraising initiatives.

This is a rewarding opportunity to lead a camp that shapes lives and fosters a love for the outdoors.
